How MOVbud works

Getting started

MOVbud guides a film from idea to release, step by step for the kind of film you're making.

How do I start a project?

Go to Projects → New project. Pick the kind of film (action sports, YouTube long-form, documentary, short, music video or feature), answer a few questions or chat with the setup assistant, and MOVbud builds the roadmap, budget, crew list and release plan for that kind of film.

What's the roadmap?

The eight stages every film goes through: Choose, Roadmap, Develop, Pre-production, Pitch, Shoot, Post and Launch. Each stage has tasks tailored to your film type. Tick them off as you go; the project shows how far along you are.

Can I use MOVbud on my phone?

Yes. Open movbud.com on your phone and install it: on Android or desktop use Install in Settings; on iPhone tap Share → Add to Home Screen. Then turn on notifications in Settings.

Who can see my project?

Only the people you invite. Owners and producers can change everything; crew can upload and work on tasks; viewers can only look.

Planning: script, shots, schedule and budget

Everything before the camera rolls.

Do I need a script?

No. For documentaries and sports films you can just list scenes and shots. If you have a script, write it in the Script tab or paste it in; the AI breakdown pulls out scenes, locations, characters and props.

How do shot lists work?

Each scene has shots with size, angle, movement and lens. Shots link to footage once you've filmed them, so you can see what's still missing. AI Studio can sketch a storyboard frame for any shot.

How do I schedule the shoot?

Add shoot days, drag scenes onto them, and MOVbud builds a call sheet per day with locations, people and kit. Cast and crew availability shows when you plan.

What's the Board?

Your cast, crew, locations and gear in one place, each with a status (idea, asked, confirmed). Confirmed locations and cast also feed the AI Studio brief.

Footage

Upload, organise and find your clips.

How big can uploads be?

Large camera files upload in chunks and resume if your connection drops, so keep the tab open and it'll carry on. Your plan sets the total storage.

What does "Organise with AI" do?

It looks at frames from each clip and writes a short description and tags (wave, wipeout, drone, interview…), and matches clips to scenes and shots. That's what the search, the Cut tool and the story builder use.

What do Select, Best take and Reject mean?

Your ratings. Rejected clips are hidden from the story builder and AI suggestions; best takes are offered first.

What's the "AI-made" badge?

Anything made by AI Studio is marked so it's never mistaken for real footage. The label can't be removed.

Cut tool

A browser editor that works like Final Cut Pro.

Does it use Final Cut's keyboard shortcuts?

Yes: blade (B), select (A), trim (T), range (R), append (E), insert (W), overwrite (D), connect (Q), J/K/L playback, I/O marks and more. On Windows, ⌘ is Ctrl and ⌥ is Alt. Press ? in the Cut tool for the full list.

Can I change the layout?

Yes. Drag the edges between panels to resize, close panels you don't need, float any panel as its own window, and save layouts. Pick a preset from the Workspace menu to reset.

Can I run ads for the film?

Yes: Launch → Promote. Connect your Meta, Google or X ad account, pick a goal (views, clicks or reach), a daily budget, dates, ages and countries. MOVbud creates the campaign paused; you add the video and switch it on in the platform's ads manager, and the results show up in MOVbud every day. Ad spend is billed by the platform to your own ad account.

How do I export?

Export a video file straight from the browser, or send the edit to Final Cut Pro (FCPXML), DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro (XML) to finish there with your original files.

Can my editor and I work at the same time?

Yes. Changes sync live, and you'll see who else is in the cut. Leave timecoded comments for each other.

AI Studio and the story builder

AI that helps your own film, never a blank box.

What can AI Studio make?

Storyboard frames for planned shots, thumbnails from a real frame, short fill shots (establishing views, cutaways, moods), clip extensions and upscaled stills. Every request is tied to a scene, shot or clip of your project.

Why do I have to fill in a brief first?

So everything matches your film: the look in words, at least two reference frames from your own footage, and a photo of each cast member and location in use. It's done once per project.

How much does it cost?

Each request shows its credit cost and what to expect before you confirm. If a job fails, the credits come back automatically. Credits come with paid plans and in top-up packs (Billing).

What's the story builder?

Give it a target length and it turns your organised clips into an episode: hook, acts and beats with the clips to use, voice-over ideas, and a list of shots you're missing. "Build this cut" puts it straight onto a new timeline.

Will people and action look real?

Often not. AI is good at landscapes, water, skies, objects and moods; people, faces and fast sport moves often look wrong. Use it for gaps and planning, and film the real action.

Marketplace

Where brands hire crews, creators and athletes.

How do I get hired?

Make a page (crew, creator, athlete, brand or agency), add your best work to the portfolio, and post updates. Brands search by role, sport, location and kit, and can message you or invite you to apply.

How do brands post work?

From a brand page, post an opportunity: a shoot, a sponsorship or a campaign, with dates, location and budget. Applicants are ranked by how well they match.

How does payment work?

When a brand hires someone it becomes a deal with deliverables. The brand pays into MOVbud; we hold the money until the work is approved, then pay the talent (minus the Marketplace fee). Set up payouts in Billing to get paid.

What if something goes wrong?

Either side can open a dispute on a paid deal. The money stays held while MOVbud reviews the deal and messages, then releases it, refunds it or splits it fairly.

Account, billing and privacy

Plans, notifications and your data.

How do plans and credits work?

The free plan covers small projects. Paid plans add storage, team members and monthly AI credits. Change or cancel any time in Billing; you keep your plan until the end of the period.

How do I control notifications?

Settings → Notifications. Turn push on per device, and choose email for everything, important things only, or nothing.

Can I download or delete my data?

Yes, in Settings → Your data. The download includes your profile, projects, Marketplace activity and credit history. Deleting removes your account, pages and the projects you own.

How do I contact MOVbud?

Email hello@movbud.com. For anything about a deal, include the deal title.
